Jefferson Memorial

Hello friends, family, and tech-savvy grandparents of our 86:12 students! This blog will be a great place for our lovely photographer Candace and I (Linley, one of Refuge Student Ministry's summer interns) to post how 86:12 is working in our nation's Capitol this week and keep you in the loop!

Today was a typical day on an 86:12 mission trip--crazy. As soon as students landed in DC and arrived via bus to Trinity University, they have not stopped going. At around 4:30--after the flight that missed one plane due to another's mistake arrived--we herded the students into their family groups and walked a good distance to a metro station. Our destination was the Jefferson Memorial. Trying to move 240 people from point A to point B using public transportation in a busy city was no small feat, but we all made it without too much mishap. The sun was hot, but it is pretty incredible to see how The Lord uses our moments of exhaustion or weakness to bring him glory. An especially cool moment was when our power cut out right as we started in on a really powerful gospel number. Even in the heat, all the leaders agreed that it gave them goosebumps. We had people rushing to come listen to us preach the grace of God. If that isn't an example of how The Lord uses us, I don't know what is!

After some milling around, we trekked back to the dorm for dinner. During dinner, our senior boys (or I guess men now!) led all of us in a spontaneous singing of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". How those kids still had the energy they did is beyond me. God's blessings are good and often even make us laugh.

All in all, a great day. 86:12 is truly going to be the hands and feet of Christ this week and I can't wait to see how it not only changes the lives of the people in DC, but of our students and leaders as well!!!
